Owned and operated by Stephen C. DuVal, MPT, DuVal Integrative Physical Therapy uses a host of Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) and other manual physical therapy techniques to treat a variety of conditions, ranging from chronic neck and back pain, fibromyalgia, migraines, concussions, post-surgical procedures, and many others.

“I can walk into his clinic with a pain level of 9 and leave with a pain level of 2 and sometimes pain so mild I can barely feel it at all…If I only knew about DuVal Integrative Physical Therapy from the onset of my pain problems…I honestly believe I would have been totally pain free then and not suffered needlessly all these years.”

Techniques

When using Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) and manual Physical Therapy to treat patients, many different techniques are used. The following is a partial list of treatment techniques and what they do.

Myofascial Release

This is the method for removing strains from fascial and other forms of connective tissue. We use the indirect approach, which can be much more comfortable for the patient.

Strain Counterstrain

This is a technique used to reduce muscle spasm of voluntary muscle tissue.

Advanced Strain Counterstrain

This is strain counterstrain for autonomically innervated muscular tissue, including arteries, veins, organs, lymphs, and discs.

Neural Tissue Tension Technique

NTT is used to reduce scar tissue and improve nerve function.

Muscle Energy Technique

This is a technique used to realign biomechanics, from sacrum and pelvis through the cervical spine.

Meet Steve DuVal, MPT

Steve is a licensed physical therapist in Virginia who graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1993, where he received degrees of Master of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Health Science. Steve has worked almost exclusively in out-patient orthopedics before opening his clinic in 2011. He has worked for The Retreat Hospital, Stuart Circle Hospital and Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Hospital.

Steve has worked in the Mechanicsville area since 2000, specializing in manual therapy. His current focus is working with complex patient populations (fibromyalgia, migraines and chronic neck and back pain) that have not responded to more traditional treatment approaches. He has been using Integrative Manual Therapy techniques and various other manual techniques of physical therapy to treat the whole patient versus “body parts.”
